Embrace the Ripple Effect: Join World Values Day on October 17th

The word Values in yellow and behind the word rippling turquoise water.

As World Values Day approaches on October 17th, it's the perfect time for organisations to reflect on their core values and the impact they have on their teams and communities. This day isn't just a reminder of the importance of values; it's an opportunity to create a positive ripple effect that extends beyond individual actions to influence entire organisations and communities.

The Power of Core Values

At Ripple Effect Leadership, I believe that when employees and business owners truly live their core values, it creates a positive ripple effect. This concept is at the heart of my mission. Values are not just abstract concepts; they are the guiding principles that shape decisions, actions, and interactions. When these values are genuinely embraced and reflected in everyday behaviours, they can lead to higher levels of engagement, satisfaction, and success within an organisation.

The Positive Ripple Effect

Living your core values can transform an organisation. It fosters a positive work culture, enhances team cohesion, and builds trust among colleagues. This positive environment doesn't just benefit the internal team; it extends to customers, partners, and the wider community. A company known for its integrity, commitment, and care will naturally attract loyal customers and dedicated employees.

For example, imagine a company that values transparency. When this value is lived daily, it builds a culture of openness and honesty. Employees feel safe to share ideas and concerns, leading to innovative solutions and a supportive workplace. Customers appreciate the transparency and are more likely to trust and engage with the brand.

The Negative Ripple Effect

Conversely, not living core values can create a negative ripple effect. A poor culture, where values are ignored or violated, can lead to dissatisfaction, mistrust, and high turnover rates. This negative atmosphere doesn't stay contained within the organisation; it spills over into customer interactions, affecting the brand's reputation and overall success.

Consider a scenario where a company preaches customer-centricity but fails to listen to its employees or address their concerns. The disconnect between stated values and actual behaviours can result in a demotivated workforce, poor customer service, and ultimately, a damaged brand reputation.

Why World Values Day Matters

World Values Day is a powerful reminder of the importance of values in our professional lives. On average, people spend 90,000 hours of their lives with colleagues. This staggering amount of time underscores the need for healthy, value-driven organisational cultures. By participating in World Values Day, organisations can take concrete steps towards aligning their actions with their core values, fostering a positive environment, and creating a lasting impact.

Getting Involved

This October 17th, take the Values Challenge and commit one hour to focus on your organisation's values. Reflect on the following questions:

  • How well are we living our core values every day?

  • What practical steps can we take to better embody these values?

  • How can we ensure these values are reflected in our interactions with colleagues, customers, and the community?

The Values Challenge is easy to organise and can serve as a catalyst for meaningful change within your organisation. By dedicating just one hour to this workshop, you can start creating the positive ripple effect that will benefit your entire team and community.

I invite you to join the global movement on World Values Day. Let's work together to build healthy organisational cultures where core values are not just words on a wall but lived experiences that drive positive change.
