Heavy On The Confidence Please! — How to Stay Organized In Chaos And Weather Imposter Syndrome

How confident can we be if we’re not well-organized as business owners?

Think about it.

Even if we’re determined to make things work and have goals in sight, without being organized, following through simply won’t happen.

You see, organization is deeply intertwined with confidence as well as productivity levels

Let’s explore why that is, how imposter syndrome is connected, and how we can overcome the imposter.

The Link Between Organization and Confidence

Staying on top of our work-life balance for our mental, emotional and physical health is reason enough to improve our organization skills.

But the benefit of added confidence is a MAJOR second why.

So how does organization and confidence go hand in hand?

Organization Elevates Our Sense of Control

Nobody on this here planet earth is fully in control of everything that happens in life.

However, gaining a sense of control makes us feel more at ease, in control, and confident…  especially for entrepreneurs juggling multiple tasks.

We should learn both how to manage stress and how to alleviate it by being organized.

Your foundation for getting organized might look like an awareness of:

  1. When events are happening, and deadlines are coming up,

  2. Who is taking care of tasks, and how they’re getting on,

  3. What steps — from teeny weeny to Big Foot size — are needed to complete projects.

One of my most prioritized leadership skills is having a well-managed inbox

The more control we gain as business owners, the better we can anticipate the unexpected without additional chaos!

(Enhanced) Focus Enforces Confidence

Enhanced focus enforces confidence. Meanwhile, disorganization disrupts focus.

Think of how scatter-brained you feel when poor organization sets in. Not only do you get overwhelmed with the stress of deadlines and missed details, but productivity levels take a hit.

In turn, low productivity triggers disappointment in ourselves and decreases our confidence.

On the flip side, entrepreneurs who stay organized can laser-focus in on tasks, meet deadlines comfortably, and produce quality products and services for clients.

The resulting feedback from clients, from our own self-satisfaction, and from what is reflected in our business’ bottom line is certain to bolster confidence.

But there is one widely-experienced phenomenon that could still sucker punch you and keep you from experiencing the confidence that comes with even the best organization savviness. It’s called imposter syndrome.

If you’re familiar, read on for insights to overcome this menace.

3 Mindset Shifts to Maneuver Imposter Syndrome

Is every day a battle against perfectionism, chronic self-doubt, and fear of failure? Do you sometimes look over your shoulder in fear of someone running up behind you and exposing you as the fraud you sometimes feel you are?

Imposter syndrome has many faces. But it is often triggered when we’re about to take a big step in our business. It’s kind of like the fright, flight, or fight experience: reflexive and borne from our subconscious.

The good thing is, we can retrain this automatic reaction by taking an intentional stance with our mindset and reframing negative thought patterns.

Adopt these 3 Mindset Shifts to Persist Through Imposter Syndrome:

1️⃣ Hype Up Your Skillset

The problem is rarely that you’re an actual imposter. We just tend to think everyone else knows more than we do.

Have you ever heard it said that nobody really knows what they’re doing

Some people have a proclivity towards taking chances unabashedly, unafraid, and with ZERO TO LITTLE knowledge about what they’re getting into.

How do you think the greatest inventions happened? No blueprint? No problem! You, however, do get to have blueprints… but we’ll talk about that later.

If you don’t have the skills, you probably have the knowledge. Don’t have the knowledge? Maybe you call it experience. Point is, you’ve got something going on. I can guarantee it.

And if you think someone else knows more, chances are that’s simply not true. Even if they do, at the very least, they’ll respect your passion, your drive, your CONFIDENCE.

You can gain a lot of confidence with one simple technique: List out and regularly look over your skills and your wins from the past few days, weeks, months, and years.

2️⃣ Never Stop Learning

Like I said, no one knows everything about everything, in any field.

It’s perfectly okay to uncover blindspots and see where we might be shortsighted about things.

Once you adopt the attitude of continuous learning, you become more comfortable with not knowing. Instead, you learn to appreciate the joy of growth and learning new things.

And the best thing is, these days there's a blueprint for nearly everything. For instance, I have tons of free resources to help you along as the leader in your biz!

Instead of worrying about what you don’t know, reframe your weaknesses into areas for growth, and challenge yourself.

You can learn through podcasts, books, YouTube, social media, and courses, online or offline.

3️⃣ Learn To Digest Uncomfortable Feelings

It’s going to take time to redirect your perspective around failure and setbacks. Nothing happens overnight, especially repatterning our subconscious mind.

In the meantime, grab your weighted plush toy — for adults, of course! — and ride out the imposter syndrome wave. And I do mean ride it out, rather than getting flipped over and thrown around.

Acknowledgement is a key step to digest uncomfortable feelings.

Acknowledging tough feelings reduces overwhelm, gives us mental control and takes us beyond the emotions.

Digesting your emotions might look like the following — all examples I put into practice myself:

  • Quietly letting the wave pass without getting angry at ourselves,

  • Talking it out with close friends, trusted family, or a mentor,

  • Acknowledgement followed immediately by a positive affirmation,

  • Journaling in whatever form you’re comfortable (writing, personal vlog, etc.).

  • Working on creative projects or craft to help you reset your mindset.

Imposter syndrome is a silent attack. It goes under the radar because it’s hard to imagine we’re doing this to ourselves. What we don’t see is easy to ignore. But we need to take this seriously.

Once you start managing imposter syndrome, just imagine down the line when you’re not plagued by negative thoughts nearly as much and can dive into amazing new opportunities without biting your nails!
