Transform Your Core Organizational Values Into A Powerful Organizational Culture
Core Values: They’re a sign of familiarity, a shield against change, and an easy way to get back on track during times of change and chaos.
Core values are great for growing your business from the bottom up, but what about from the top down? How can your organization create a culture where all decisions are made through the lens of your core values?
It’s time to take your organizational values from a plaque on the wall to being a fixture of your organization’s culture!
Simply put, company culture is typically one and the same as your business environment. Your hired employees, office policies, the way you do business, and your guiding values are the ripples that create your overall culture.
I love the way culture is defined here:
“If you’re talking about an organization, culture is often articulated as ‘the way we do things around here.’
I believe it’s more about the way of life in a place. The difference is nuanced. One implies the culture is static, and the other takes a more organic approach, leaving room for growth and evolution.”
Awwww… growth and evolution is what excites me when talking about company culture.
Here are three awesome ways to help make those core values a fixture of your organization’s culture.
Refer to them! Yes, those hidden core words in your HR manual or on that one plaque hidden in the back board room! Show them off! Are your core values buried on your website? Don’t hide them the people you serve. Make them more visible on your website, social media pages, and on any other digital front you can.
They are also a great way to give KUDOS to colleagues who are kicking ass and living them through the work they do. Wanna know why? Because giving kudos to a colleague activates their reward circuit which heightens focus and motivation! WOO-HOO Dopamine!
Keep the core values top of mind for your employees is super important because they also act as a compass during times of chaos, conflict and challenges. Referring back to the core values during a challenging situation, creates tiny waves of energy among team members.
While core values might be a great idea in theory, there are some fundamental challenges that can hinder their actualization. If you're trying to implement your core organizational values into your workplace culture, make sure you're clear on what they are and why your company should have them (regularly).
Don’t have org core values? Then let’s chat about how I can design a creative workshop or team retreat for your team and help you make waves with your company culture.
